It was in the last video that you heard a band put together the basic building blocks of time, tone, and texture in a piece of music. A deeper look at these aspects is what we'll be doing in this post, so stay tuned.

When you first discover music theory, you may think it's extremely complicated and impossible to understand, yet there are many methods to "understand" it. When we sing a song or play guitar chords, for example, we are exhibiting a comprehension of the ideas of melody and harmony, respectively. In the same way that we know how to throw and catch a ball, we have an understanding of how a projectile travels through the air, even if we don't grasp the physics and arithmetic of projectile motion and air resistance.

Even though our understanding of music isn't full, it's the foundation for how we may make meaning of these aspects.

Melody

A song's melody is often regarded as its most critical component. This is what we refer to as "the tune" in regular speech. The melody, on the other hand, may be thought of as a collection of pitches or notes arranged in a certain pattern. We might conceive of melody as 'pitch plus time' since the duration of each individual note is governed by the rhythm of the melody.

In addition, the phrase, contour, and interval elements of a melody may all be identified as elements of a melody. Observe how the melody has movement (given by the fact that the pitches are various lengths) and form since the notes physically travel up and down as the melody progresses. In popular music, the lead vocalist generally performs the primary melody, while the rest of the band plays an accompaniment that enhances the lead singer's performance.

Harmony

Vertical blending is a musical aspect that occurs when pitches are vertically mixed, often in groups of three notes. The words chord and triad are often used. Using chords to harmonise a melody, you may add notes that mix with and complement the melody. The notes of each chord are created by combining notes together, and the notes of each chord are formed by combining notes. Key

A key may be thought of as a technique of organising pitches into 'families,' where all of the notes in a given key have a similar characteristic. Metre
