Lorde is a New Zealand singer, songwriter, and record producer. Her real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, and she was born on November 7, 1996, in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand. Lorde's parents are both of Croatian and Irish descent, and she is the second of four children.
Lorde's music career began when she was just 13 years old, after a friend's father sent a recording of her singing to a local record label. She was signed to Universal Music Group soon after and began working on her debut album, "Pure Heroine"
In 2013, Lorde released her first single, "Royals" which became a massive hit, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her debut album, "Pure Heroine" was released in September 2013, and it received critical acclaim for its unique sound and lyrics. The album went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide and earned Lorde four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Royals."
Lorde's second album, "Melodrama" was released in June 2017 and debuted at number one on the New Zealand and US Billboard 200 charts. The album received widespread critical acclaim and earned Lorde another Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
In addition to her music career, Lorde is also known for her activism and outspokenness on social and political issues. She has advocated for LGBT rights and gender equality, among other causes.
