Kareena Kapoor, the star of "Jaane Jaan," describes her experience in the OTT realm as 'nerve-racking,' reminiscent of her feelings 24 years ago.
In a recent Netflix roundtable discussion, Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor Khan shared her apprehensions and insights into her OTT debut with Sujoy Ghosh's mystery thriller, 'Jaane Jaan.' The actress, who has been a stalwart in the Indian film industry for over two decades, admitted that stepping into the realm of streaming platforms was a "nerve-racking" experience.
Participating in Netflix’s The Actors' Roundtable 2023 alongside fellow actors such as Sidharth Malhotra, Kajol, Sanya Malhotra, Jaideep Ahlawat, Tillotama Shome, and Amruta Subhash, Kareena discussed the challenges of transitioning from the big screen to the more intimate setting of OTT platforms.
Expressing her feelings during the discussion moderated by Rajeev Masand, Kapoor Khan revealed, "Coming onto the OTT platform, that was a little nerve-racking. I think it did change the way I was performing. It was as though I was coming onto the screen for the first time. It was like what I felt 24 years ago."
The actress emphasized the perceived intimacy of OTT platforms, stating, "I was nervous because somehow, I feel that TV is more personal. Somebody could be watching you lying down in bed, in a comfortable space. You’re really up-close and personal rather than sitting in the cinema, munching popcorn and the screen is there. So, somehow, I feel like that altered my thought a little bit."
Addressing the difference between working in OTT platforms and feature films, Kareena acknowledged the shift in her approach to performance. Despite her vast experience in the industry, she confessed to ongoing nervousness when considering future projects in the OTT space.
Kapoor Khan, known for her versatility, entered the OTT space relatively late in her career. When asked about her decision to take on 'Jaane Jaan,' she revealed, "I always wanted to work with Sujoy (Ghosh) but it was the right kind of script. A thriller would be different for me to do rather than the same."
'Jaane Jaan,' penned and directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is a Bollywood adaptation of the 2005 Japanese novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X' by Keigo Higashino. The film revolves around the life of a single mother entangled in a murder mystery, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma playing pivotal roles. Kareena Kapoor Khan's foray into the world of OTT with this project marks a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
